Park We Never Been to Before

Jack often says, "Mommy, I want to go to a park I never been to before."
Sarah loves maps.

So I decided to combine these two favourite thing into a fun summer activity.  On my last day of work, I grabbed a map of all of the schools in Richmond and decided we were going to get to as many new parks as we could this summer.  This past week we made it to two parks "we never been to before."

We swing.

We climb.

We hang upside down.

We all set goals for ourselves.  Sarah is working on being able to move across the monkey bars all by herself.

I am trying to improve my flexed arm hang.

Anyone else remember the Canada fitness testing in elementary school?  You know the one where you were timed on your flexed arm hang and how many sit ups you could do in a minute and a host of other tests including something called the shuttle run? At the end of the testing everyone received a badge with a colour (gold, silver or bronze) based on their results.  Well my colour was always participation.  It all happened many moons ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday.  I couldn't do a flexed arm hang to save my soul.  This summer, I vow to improve my time and these park ventures are a good place to start. I think I am officially up to two whole seconds of flexed arm hanging.  Maybe by the end of the summer I will be able to do it for five seconds.  I will keep you posted.

  1. This must be like kid heaven to go to parks you've never been to before. Ben was very excited to go to the big playground in Steveston village. He LOVES it and I love being able to sit on a bench with the baby as he goes at it with a few little friends that live around there. Can't wait to read what new playgrounds you guys discover and recommend!

  2. Yes Steveston Park is a favourite of ours. If you are in Richmond again, also check out Garden CIty Park. It has a creek bed with a hand pump and a water wheel as well as natural wood for climbing and other cool playground apparatus.

  3. Really great idea. I made a bucket list of places we were going to see/explore this summer too. Makes hanging out a lot more exciting!! Maybe we'll bump into you at one of the parks...
